RCMAR References

One purpose of the Resource Centers for Minority Aging Research is to increase awareness of minority aging research. These pages can aid the new researcher who is struggling to find a place to begin, as well as the experienced investigators looking for information, collaboration, job opportunities, and potential students or colleagues.

Resources

US Department of Health and Human Services Health and Human Services Statistics About Minorities
This web-based minority health data resource has been created to assist a wide variety of users (e.g., researchers, students, policy makers and community groups) in identifying research and data collections, analytic reports and publications that may be useful in health disparities research and policy efforts. This site will be continuously updated to add relevant minority health data resources as they are identified.

National Archive of Computerized Data on Aging (NACDA)

The National Archive of Computerized Data on Aging (NACDA), located within ICPSR, is funded by the National Institute on Aging. NACDA's mission is to advance research on aging by helping researchers to profit from the under-exploited potential of a broad range of datasets.

The Health Disparities Community Solutions Database
An online database detailing projects and interventions that address health disparity challenges in our communities. These interventions have been reported by a wide range of groups from across the country, including city and state departments of public health, non profits, and academic think tanks.

Unequal Access:  Insurance Instability Among Low-Income Workers and Minorities
(Downloadable PDF)

The Commonwealth Fund explores why low-income minority workers had higher uninsured rates and greater insurance instability than had been previously documented.  According to the report, most low-income adults worked during the four years studied, but many had only intermittent job-based coverage or none at all.

Addressing Health Disparities In Community Settings: An Analysis of Best Practices in Community-Based Approaches
(Downloadable PDF)
This report to the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation reviews and describes existing community programs designed to address health outcome disparities for specific conditions in minority Americans. The analysis identifies best practices, success factors and the potential contributions of a selected group of community based initiatives addressing disparities.

US National Healthcare Disparities Report,
The National Healthcare Disparities Report (NHDR) tracks disparities in both quality of and access to health care in the United States for both the general population and for congressionally designated priority populations.

The report presents, in chart format, the latest available findings on quality of and access to health care in the general U.S. population and among priority populations. It focuses on four components of quality—effectiveness, patient safety, timeliness, and patient centeredness—and two components of access—facilitators and barriers to health care and health care utilization.

Mentoring Modules: An Introduction to Mentorship
Mentorship is recognized across disciplines in both academic and practice settings as an important contributor to building capacity within organizations and among individuals. There are many definitions and types of mentorship. Mentorship can be spontaneous or formal, direct or indirect, and short or long-term. These modules provide a foundation for exploring these different forms of mentorship in ways that can contribute to creating a culture of mentorship. The modules use international health examples, but they apply just as well to health disparities and minority aging.
