RCMAR Model

RCMAR Model

Community is at the heart of efforts to improve minority aging research capacity and address health disparities of ethnic and racial minorities through the NIA Resource Centers for Minority Aging Research (RCMAR). This Model demonstrates that each key RCMAR focus, whether it is the generation of new knowledge, development of research tools and applications, translation and dissemination of research findings or research capacity building, is linked to community. The Model is operationalized through the RCMARs’ work by using community-participatory research methods, involving community advisors in mentoring and selecting RCMAR Scholars, anchoring research topics with community needs and priorities, and hosting community events and activities to disseminate findings celebrate RCMAR activities that benefit underserved racial and ethnic populations of older adults.

One purpose of the Resource Centers for Minority Aging Research is to increase awareness of minority aging research. These pages can aid the new researcher who is struggling to find a place to begin, as well as the experienced investigators looking for information, collaboration, job opportunities, and potential students or colleagues.
