Development of Community-Based Partnerships in
Minority Aging Research




Workshop Objectives:

This workshop, sponsored by the Community Liaison Cores of the NIA Resource Centers for Minority Aging Research (RCMAR), is a collaborative effort to enhance the partnership development process with minority community-based organizations. The objective of this workshop is to discuss multi-directional mentoring processes in establishing, maintaining and strengthening community-based partnerships for minority aging research. Success and challenges faced in the collaborative work of the RCMAR Community Liaison Cores will be presented. Partnerships with community-based organizations, faith-based organizations, and tribal organizations will be used as examples. The specific aims are to:

  1. Explore diverse methods to maintain partnerships with community-based organizations providing services to aging minorities.

  2. Discuss the partnership development and safeguarding process with community-based leaders.

  3. Present an overview of innovative approaches to mentor community-based leaders and academic scientists in the process of developing and maintaining partnerships for aging research.
