Maximizing the Potential of Minority Faculty
Through the Mentoring Process



Workshop Objectives:
  1. Identify the structure, process and critical components of successful mentorship programs for minority researcher and faculty development.

  2. Explore the expectations and measures of success from the perspectives of faculty receiving mentoring (mentees), faculty providing mentoring (mentors), and programs that fund minority faculty development in aging research.

  3. Discuss the mentoring needs of faculty through the continuum of their academic advancement process.

  4. Review models of faculty development mentorship programs.

  5. Consider issues germane to racial and ethnic minority faculty development that are critical in mentoring programs.

  6. To develop models of minority faculty mentorship programs that represent “best practices”.
